The photo of a bunch of girls wearing lungi in Trivandrum college had gone viral in the present week on various social networking sites, importantly Facebook and Twitter.
Initially, the cooked up story was that the girls chose to wear lungi as a means of showing protest against wearing jeans in the college. Since, some of the colleges account for such restrictions, the photo was quite compromising with the cooked up story and the photo suddenly went viral. Other assumption was that the photo might have been taken during some dance competitions in the college. However, these information were fake.
It was later reported that these girls were fans of Telugu Superstar Mahesh Babu who was wearing lungi in his movie ‘Srimanthudu’ which had Shruti Haasan as the female lead. However, these photographs have been circulating in WhatsApp for over an year from August 2015.
This is not the first incident of girls dressing up in the Lungi costume. During the previous year also, as a part of the Onam celebrations, girls of St. Teresa’s College at Ernakulam also wore Lungis showing fan support for the actor Nivin Pauly, in the movie ‘Premam’.
Actor Nivin Pauly himself had shared the photo in Facebook which had also been published in one of the Malayalam dailies.
