At last one of the most awaited release of megastar Mammooty ; KASABA has been released in the mallu box office. The film is debut of a new star in the direction field, Nithin Renji Panicker, who wrote this story also. Along with maegastar other leading roles are carried by Jagadeesh, Varalaxmi, Neha Saxena, Sampath Raj, Maqbool Salman, Shaheen Siddique, Sidddique. It’s also the debut of daughter of actor Sarathkumar who is a famous face for Malayalam audience, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar. Music of the film
is done by Rahul Raj, and the film is distributed by Anto Joseph Film company. Kasaba is produced by Alice George. The initial collection report is still to unveil, even though from the first day audience response it is clear that is will be a blockbuster in Malayalam box office.
INTO THE FILM
The film KASABA was on the hit chart of social media since from long days before the release itself, The film’s teaser has become one of the most viewed Malayalam film teaser, by completing 5.1 Lakhs (510,000) “real-time” views in 24 hours. I think due to this hypes and also the star value of Mammooty the film was released in almost 101 screens in Kerala and 14 screens in Tamilnadu, even though there is another three Malayalam EID releases and the giant movie Sultan.
From the teaser itself it was clear that, CI Rajan Zachariah is a character with both comic and serious in nature, it remained true in the film also. Megastar is coming in police uniform after a period of 5 years, and in my opinion Mammootty has again proved that more than any actor the uniform suits for him in the age of 64 also.
For the fans Kasaba is a complete EID treat, but unfortunately according to the critics the second half of the film doesn’t reach up to the level, and the climax is also little weak. But as a whole the film is a thrilling entertainer for this festival. The film was at its best mood in the first half, with so many stylish appearances and mass action scenes along with an excellent background score the film was too entreating in the first half with a mass interval punch. As always the performance of this great acting university was too good, and the director and writer Nithin Renji Panicker has crafted this police officer into a way different role which the Mammootty has played in his entire career as police officer. Sharing the screen with Mammootty is too difficult, it will become worse if you are a debutant, but Varalaxmi Sarathkumar and Neha saxena has managed their tasks very neatly.
The story is beging from the Kasaba police station in which Circle Inspector Rajan Zachariah is ruling, Rajan Zachariah is not an idol police officer, the cases are handled by him by his own way, he was never under control of anyone, unless he decides. But the story twists when he has been taken into kerala Karnataka border, the remaing story narrates the problems faced by him and the solutions he found out. The narration is handled by the director so brilliantly as he never loose down the grip of the story.
As a whole Kasaba is a thrilling mass-entertainer and one of the best roles of Mammootty after Pathemari.
